Microsoft Entra ID

What is it?

Microsoft Azure, whose name has now changed to Microsoft Entra ID, is a comprehensive cloud computing platform and infrastructure provided by Microsoft. For the purposes of this page we’ll use “Azure” and “Entra ID” interchangeably.

Azure encompasses a wide range of services, including computing power, storage, networking, analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. Azure enables businesses and developers to build, deploy, and manage applications and services through Microsoft-managed data centres, eliminating the need for on-premises hardware.

FAQs

  • We’ve heard about Azure but not sure it is what we need. Can you advise?

    Yes. Our primary approach here is to first of all quantify the actual requirement and our advice will be based not only on the suitability of Azure in itself but also, your current IT infrastructure; if we can leverage any pre-existing investment to achieve your new business goals that it would be remiss of us to fail to recommend that.

  • What about Security? All our data will be with Microsoft?

    Azure complies with the most stringent of security protocols including, but not limited to, HIPAA, and ISO 27001. Its data storage policies are also GDPR compliant.

  • If we get a Virtual Server and it’s not fast enough, what can we do?

    If the performance issue is related to the Virtual Server itself then we can scale it up to a more performant solution. This is a key benefit of Azure versus traditional servers.

  • Will my data be stored on HDDs or SSDs?

    In cases where we use Azure Files (for example) the default choice is HDD as this offers the best value but where file performance is paramount, and if budget allows, we can easily switch this to SSD-based storage to gain the increased speed that this technology is widely known for.

  • Will my data remain in the UK?

    Yes. During Azure Files setup we can specify the data centre’s location and when dealing with UK clients we select UK-based sites.
